Looks like they got the tripod socket placement right......It appears to be 
right under center of the lens.  ( Note that the
instruction book shows what looks like a tripod socket in the body, but an 
accompanying picture shows no hole in the bottom plate
that would be needed to use the tripod socket....)

Nice instruction manual..... seems well written.
