there are lots and lots of places runners can crash & burn.  Mile 20 in 
a marathon is a good spot, when they run completely out of power, they 
still have 6.2 miles left to run and their legs cramp up.  Or, 
post-finish when they're trying not to fall down and their support crew 
is trying to get an intelligble word out of the runner.
