Wow.  That IS an interesting question.  To my 
knowledge, yes, the Rolleifix was the first 
quick-release system in the marketplace.  I would 
have to look it up in my copy of Prochnow, 
currently inaccessible due to a dog sleeping 
between to stacks of boxes of books.  The 
Rolleifix was certainly being made at least by 1958.
