Tina, it would be a quality problem to have, though, which good deal on the 
asph!
Still that's USD764 saving on your figures. About 27% discount from the B&H 
price. I agree that any potential resale profit is quite
another thing. I imagine that the buying price for a new owner would need to 
be significantly below the dealer price to be
worthwhile.
I'm pretty sure that there is a PLUG commandment regarding never selling 
good lenses as well. My vote for those early adopter folk
is accept that Leica is providing some compensation for issues with the M8 
and buy a lens that YOU want.

BTW, I hope that you have recovered from that nasty bug.

Eric -

The price on the list I got from Leica for the 50 Asph. is 
$2031.  B&H's price is $2795.  It's almost not worth the trouble of 
sending in the proof of purchase and getting it approved by Leica 
when I could order the lens from B&H and have it tomorrow if I wanted 
it :-(  I don't think it would be worth buying and re-selling as used.
