I have never understood these kinds of statements. In the same vein, 
some people say an SLR attracts much more attention than a rangefinder.

In my experience, people pay attention if you take a picture, be it with 
a telephone (small) or a largish camera.

Now-a-days people probably pay more attention if you use a Leica 
rangefinder. You get "what on earth is THAT" reaction.

But watch Garry Winogrand in the interview I posted earlier. People 
definitely notice him ... but it might be because he had a journalist 
along for the ride filming and doing an interview.
