Jack,
Heresy time.  Buy a used Summitar for $200 or so.  Great lens good price.
The 90 is fairly small and inexpensive for what you get so that is an
option.  A LTM Nikor 50 F1.4 is only going to run you about $300 and would
be a better lens than the VC options.  Heck, a clean Canon 50 1.8 would be a
better option.  Yes, I am biased.
