Stan,
It depends on whether the digital camera has a beam splitter with a
submirror sending light to a meter or focus sensor somewhere else.  Both
sorts of polarizer do the job, but a linear with the submirror will randomly
give you incorrect exposures and/or focus.  But two linear polarizers
stacked make a great light extinction tool for controlling the shutter speed
downwards.
