You can try it, but the lens may vignette from this reduction in the 
effective width of the front aperture.  ( Sort of like putting
a lens hodd for a 500 mm lens in a 21mm lens.... the mechanical vignetting 
is quite pronounced....)

However, given the fact that you will be using an M8, it is possible that 
the smaller sensor will help.

I need an adapter so I can  
mount the 46mm filter on the 49mm thread of the 3E (vignetting be  
damned). Can anyone help?
