Howard, your description sounds very much like what happened to my M8
body #1 in May, after 30 days of use. I suspect it is an irreparable
electronic fault in a circuit board, based on what I was told about mine.

I think your best bet (if you are to be in Canada a while longer) is to
get on the telephone to Leica Canada and see if they will replace it
under the international warranty.

In my case I contacted my dealer, Rich Pinto at Photo Village in New
York, who contacted Robert Fisk at Leica US in New Jersey. I sent the
body to Robert who had a technician examine it and they then sent me a
replacement.

(I learned more about the process as I became better acquainted with Mr.
Fisk - on the telephone and by email - when my 2nd M8 body lasted about
30 minutes before the Play button stopped working. My sense is that
Leica finally figured out they have to promptly replace bodies that have
suffered these electronic faults to keep the customers happy. And I am
happy - although I am nervous saying it - because body #3 has been solid
and I am really enjoying it.)

Hope this helps.
