Probably quite a few R-D1 bodies here...book says 3.5 hours.  Probably not a 
bad idea to make sure it's fully charged; it may take less than that, since 
it probably was charged by the previous owner and hopefully was not allowed 
to go completely flat.
You are going to want more batteries.  Epson no longer has them, and they 
were very expensive.  Batteries spec'd for the Fuji NP80 are commonly 
available at attractive prices and work fine.  Make sure you get at least 
1500mAh batts.
I hope you are not deploying overseas anytime soon?  Either way, thanks for 
your service.
