The highlight of any walk for me is the village church. Little time capsules
seemingly unaffected however crazy the world gets and
a great place to eat a packed lunch and to consider ones own mortality. That
may read as morbid but to me it is not in the least
so.

It is difficult to convey, whether by pictures or words, the feeling of utter
peace sitting in an 800 year old churchyard
surrounded by those who were not just buried there but who were christened
there and married there.

The churches were built in times that were obviously as bloody and brutal as
anything we are currently engaged in. However, they
seem so far removed from current madness that sitting there soaking up the
sun, listening to bird song it is hard to believe that
anything bad is happening anywhere in the world.

The car radio on the way home will soon burst that bubble but for a brief
time every Saturday and Sunday the world seems a better
place.
