I think BD is just pulling us a leg:
in preparation of the presentation of his new, improved and utterly  
pleasant personality, he's just overdoing his old grumpy one to make  
the contrast bigger.
Typical peeling symptoms...
Just be all patient till tonight at midnight to see the miracle happen.
