I don't have many lenses yet, just a 28 2.8, a Sigma 10-20 zoom, the  
18-55 zoom that came with my D40x, and a 55-200 VR zoom.  I bought the  
latter (because of its lightness) to use on my D40x and was surprised  
at the sharpness of the images I got with it.

Sounds like you're a candidate for some long teles.  I need to look at  
those myself.  I didn't know about the 70-300 VR.  I'll check that  
out.  I want to do sailing/boating photography and the 70-300 looks  
like a good lens for that.  The Sigma 10-20 zoom is a nice lens, too,  
particularly stopped down a bit - might work for your landscape photos.
