I never used Paypal but insisted sellers accept International Bank Drafts -
this way I have recourse and the money goes direct to the seller - never
trusted Paypal - just did not like their m. o.

I finally stopped doing ebay, not because of ebay but because of PayPal. I
bought a piece of software from a fellow in the Ukraine (he sells his
software from his site using PayPal and digitalriver.com). I clicked on the
button to purchase it, and it went through. However,
digitalriver.comaccepted the money but refused to send me the unlock
code. Their reason was
that they hadn't "authorized" my buying it. Therefore, they keep my money
but don't give me the unlock code and don't give the Ukranian his money. I
protested to PayPal using their idiotic dispute screens. I came to a dead
end when the PayPal site said that the ball was still in my court (that the
protest would go no further without my taking the final step). PayPal's
"final step" was one option...to click on a button saying that I was
dropping the dispute!!!! Numerous emails to PayPal gave me the exact same
response...that they would not do anything until I took it to the next
level, and the next level was to click on a button saying that the problem
was resolved. Since the money was taken out of a PayPal credit card (NEVER,
NEVER, NEVER GET ONE OF THOSE!!!!!), I could not get any satisfaction from
them either. DigitalRiver.com stuck with their stand, that they were
entitled to the money with nothing in return because they didn't authorize
the purchase. Nice way to make free money.

I closed my PayPal account and canceled my PayPal credit card. They sent me
a questionnaire asking why I closed the account. One of the responses was
"because I suffered a financial loss by using PayPal". Apparently people
suffering financial losses due to PayPal is common enough that it is an
option on that questionnaire.
