Subject: FW: [Leica] lens rumors
From: hoppyman at bigpond.net.au (G Hopkinson)

Please God let them be true! Certainly if wishes count... If they do, which
way would they go? A new cutting edge asph design might
be so horrendously expensive it would be impossible to buy. Zeiss currently
has their Distagon 2.8 15 ZM (made in Germany) which
costs MORE than say the Leica 2.8 21 or 24 asph. But not as much as the WATE
and its finder. My view is that Leica is unlikely to
invest in designing any more bleeding edge lenses currently.
What about a moderate aperture compact 16. It would have to be f4 or 4.5 or
so? Doesn't necessarily fit really well in the Summarit
range, but a spherical design is certainly doable. That is my own fearless
prediction, based entirely on speculation with no
evidence.
Cheers
Geoff
