Acctually they are ordinary bowls ( "kaaseh"  pronounced  in persian ). They 
are usually  used outdoors.  I'm not sure but I think  protuberance is 
because of  make them more resistant to the stokes and deformations. I will 
ask someone more knowledgeable, and will inform you.
