Well, when I said precisely this when the M8 was introduced, that it was
overpriced for what it offered, and wondered whether Leica would survive as
an independent company, a lynch mob on the list came after me. It also seems
to me that most Leica users have a romantic notion of the brand, and not
survival of the company - the brand will survive one way or another.
Remember that Canon & Nikon can give you a IDs Mk3, or a D3 only because
they sell huge quantities of Digital Rebels, D40 and the like. But Leica
rebadges an identical Panasonic at the low end and charges a hefty premium
for the pleasure of having a Red Dot on the camera! I dont understand how
they can ever survive with that mentality, and why some people actually buy
the Leica instead of the Panasonic.

For starters, Leica should follow Zeiss and sell lenses in different mounts
at reasonable prices, to at least have an annuity cash flow - and then they
can think of other things. But I am afraid that I see Leica sold to one of
Panasonic/Sony/Canon/Nikon/Samsung in the not very distant future.
Cheers
Jayanand
