When I was a teenager my cousin (a bit older, working his way through
college) and I would set out trot-lines along the creeks in the area.

We'd "trot" back and forth and pull off the little cat-fish ... before
the turtles got them (sometimes).

Then, we'd hack them up, put them in jars and bury them. This was the
summer time.

By winter time the jars would be good an smelly and he'd use them to
bait traps for minks, muskrats and racoons.

Never did like cat-fish as human food.

He sold the furs for a pretty penny back then.
