Mark,

You are correct.  The shots that I have made under similar circumstances 
with a properly matched Oly lens and IS "on" have been better.  I was being 
cheap and experimenting with a longer lens that I happened to have, which 
provides neither focus confirmation or IS.

Now, for a few more bucks, one can get an adapter fitted with a chip that 
supposedly fakes out the camera and, with manual input, provides those 
features.  I'm a tightwad and like my experiments on the cheap side.
