No doubt you know far more than I regarding these matters.
However, having read a fair amount about CCD and Cmos development  
over the last 20 years; it seems that there are a limited number of  
manufacturers (especially as regards the higher end camera chips);  
and those seem to develop a limited number of designs. While I'm sure  
it's possible that Leica would order something new and unique for a  
new R(sl); it would seem more likely, to me, that they would design  
around something that existed or was in development - given the  
numbers of cameras that Leica sells - in relation to the larger  
market - especially at a price point of $8,000 + or -. The least  
expensive 22 MP system is the Mamiya ZD 645AFD II Digital System at  
$9,999. If Leica can go up against that at $8,000 it would certainly  
have a winner - given the prestige of the Leica glass.
