Really, you had to take the whole OS down?  "Force Quit" from a
menu-click (Control-click on an Apple "mitten mouse" or right-click on
some other mouse) on the app's Dock icon didn't work?

(In a pinch, you can also find the app's line in Activity Monitor,
highlight it, and shoot it down.)

What do you mean by "Tile Windows"?  Are you talking about virtual
screens?  Because Leopard finally introduced this, with Spaces.

I agree.  This is UI minimalism at the user's expense.
