I cannot but agree with you.

I'm using the "big brother" Nikon D3 from january and altthough size and 
volume is an issue images are wonderfull specially with 14-24mm f2.8 and 
24-70mm f2.8. The arrival of the D700 -a more "normal" size and volume- 
some weeks ago put my D3 on standby as the image quality has same level 
and is a more comfortable camera. I cannot think of a better low light 
camera. Have a look at
