Could it be the cameras were tweaked as they went along so it depends on how new they are? I'd like to hear someone giving auto ISO a shot and saying they are bored by it it didn't do much for them. But do be honest I'm not in touch with photographers who are also using it. So I don't know how common it is to use or not use. All I know is I find it the reason to shoot digital. More of a reason than raw.
