Something in a Kodak TV ad I saw yesterday prompted me to go back to this
post of Brian. Kodak said that one of the advantages of its new generation
printer is that rather than relying on dyes, as H-P and most other printers
do, Kodak's relies on pigments. I am not yet into the digital era but my
uneducated guess is that as yet, Kodak's photographic printers are not at
the high end for top quality prints. But if Kodak gets to that point, would
not photographers who care about such things prefer pigment-based color
prints that almost certainly will have longer archival lives than those that
are dye-based?
