Jusy an unscientific anecdote. My M8 continued to function perfectly
(including battery life) in -5F at the Grand Canyon and below freezing at
Yosemite and Red Rock Canyon, using normal care (more than I can say for my
body). I put the camera, including battery life inside my coat on occasion
to keep the falling snow off.
Cheers

It snowed 12" in the Hudson Valley last night and the temperature is
hovering around 15 F. This morning's e-mail brought a warning from
the Olympus company about using digital cameras in the cold.

"Sub-freezing temperatures can damage a digital camera?particularly
the LCD screen. Therefore, a digital camera should not be left in a
car in the winter for extended periods of time. This also applies to
digital voice recorders, as they have LCD screens."

Has anyone ever had a LCD screen permanently damaged by cold weather?
