Thanks, I'll try some of the suggestions. My original idea was a very 
black/white graphic image, but the "busyness" of the image seems to be too 
distracting.

Alastair,
If shot RAW, try to develop for the highlights only; decrease contrast 
down to near zero, and adjust the highlights to the highest acceptable 
limit, then use the black slider to restore tones - just my two cents.
If using LR, more can be done with mid-range tones adjustment I guess.
I'd be curious to see the result if you have time to try this.
