Subject: [Leica] New Leica 18mm and a Flash!

I remember back when a lot of companies made compact flashes that worked
well. I still have a couple that feel like they were designed for an M.

The only bad part is that the mini-flashes of yesterday don't have a
Cray computer built in to figure out the impact they'll have on the
plant 30' away in the background in relation to the tip of the nose of
the person you're photographing. I have to think about that myself, and
adjust things accordingly.

On the one hand it requires me to understand at least on a certain level
the inverse square law, or at least be able to read an exposure grid on
the back of the flash. On the other hand, I only give consideration to
the nose and amazingly most of the flash photos turn out nicely.

The real secret to making good photos with flash is to only photograph
interesting things and attractive people.

You're right, Mehrdad. I bought the Metz 54MZ-4 for use on the M7 to
try and improve on the challenged SF20. I think I used it twice. The
size overpowered the poor camera. Fortunately the flash can take SCA
adapters for my Nikon and Canon bodies.
