Subject: [Leica] 90mm Macro Elmar M

In Leica M use many people think of their 50 as their long lens and shoot
portraits with it. Jim Marshall for instant. Hundreds of Jazz and rock
celebrities. All with a 50. Henri Cartier Besson look at his portrait book.
All with a 50.

Tim, Although a 75 does not give you the perspective of a 90 a 90 does not
give you the perspective of a 75 either
In use you'd find the 75 nothing similar to a 50. I'd use a separate
viewfinder not those frame lines in the camera.

The 90 appeals to me because its slow.
F 4 and be there. I love that.
A 39 filter size.
And light. 11 oz in silver lighter in black by quite a bit do doubt.
And collapsible.
The 75 is bigger and heavier all round. With a 49 filter size.

I'd think the 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar M in the same generation of lens design
evolvement as the LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 75 mm f/2 ASPH.

But in the tele area the 75 is Leica's latest breaking lens representing the
culmination of all they've learned about optics. I like that.
The words "Summicron" always stops me in my tracks.
"Elmar" makes me think "Fud".
I also like it when they stick APO on a lens depending on the typography.
Leica has great typography. And are real serious about their "APO".
I also like it when the put ASPH On the lens with their typography.
Circles are boring.
I love non circles. Or A circles. Or odd circles.
I love the latest lens technology.
Almost as much as I love the latest typography.
Not the same thing I say. Others don't.

A Summarit which promises NOT to give me any of that you'll not in my camera
bag or camera apartment.
F 2.5 and be elsewhere.
Mediocrity is not what I look for in a new Leica lens

I'm starting to like silver lenes.
On black bodies.

To be or not to be
The compact collapsible 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar M
Or the awesome APO-SUMMICRON-M 75 mm f/2 ASPH.

I'd kill for either of these lenes.
Come to think of it its a tossup.
On a carpeted floor I hope.

It's also not as compact, and for the

Though, I do agree, if 75mm suits your style, you can fill some of

gaps with that lens.
