To my eyes, the M8 outresolves the 12MP cams - D90, D3, D2x, the  
small 15MP cams (50D, 500D, etc) and comes close to the 1DsII at base  
ISO. And yes, there's that foveon-like acuity which you don't get  
outside MF. But the most unique thing about the M8 sensor -for a  
small sensor camera - is the way highlights are handled:

The only other <MF camera that comes close is the D3/D700, but they  
have a much more even tonal ramp that looks odd in the transition  
zone if you try and increase the black density to get the same look  
as the M8.
