Oh Geoff, you are staying in the WORST part of Berlin! Firstly, there  
are all the shops, which is dangerous to your wallet. Secondly, there  
are other parts of Berlin, especially in what used to be East Berlin,  
that are much more interesting than Kurf?rstendamm.
