Subject: [Leica] IMG: Mountain Bluebird

Yesterday I visited the Sierra Nevada north of Truckee California; after
about a mile along a washboarded gravel road I found a meadow filled to
overflowing with wild mountain light and the promise of a drenching. At the
meadow's edge a pair of Mountain Bluebirds was converting invertebrates into
the next crop of blue bug-eaters:

technical stuff: R8/DMR, 560mm f/6.8 Telyt-R, shoulder stock and monopod.
The second photo is cropped significantly. Note to those who obsess over
pristine glass: this 560 has several scratches and dings in the front
surface. The lens was given to me in poor condition. I removed the camo
tape & had DAG repair & re-lube the focus. I don't see a problem with this
lens.<<<<<

Hi Doug,

The 560 is a super sharp lens and in your case even with a nick or two in
the glass it doesn't seem to make any difference considering the ability to
"count the feathers!"

Both photos are excellent as usual, my favourite is the Blue one.

Those who are always freaked out about dust or scratch here or there on the
front element of a Leica lens need not do what they do. Because it wont show
unless it's a sever cut into the glass and even then one can shoot with the
lens wide open and it's not likely even then will it show. I had a 28mm lens
for the R camera with a welders spark burn into the glass and it never
showed at any aperture. I got the zit due to being "WAY TOO CLOSE" to the
welder and OOPS! But it still cut sharp images.

Great photos! Thanks,

ted
