Tim, I'm not too sure if this trick works with Vuescan, but when I scan
negatives with my Microtek Scanmaker software, I scan them as positives and
invert them in Photoshop. In other words, the output of the scan of the
negative is negative.

 It takes LOTS less time per scan, rather than having the scanning software
do the conversion from Neg to Positive.
