One more thing: I've discovered that a certain percentage of European ATM
machines do not process PIN numbers of more than 4 digits, so make sure that
her PIN is 4 digits.

Also, when my children traveled solo when they were younger, I made sure
they had a Stored Value Card tucked away in a safe place that was not their
wallet or purse. Most big banks offer these. I don't recommend putting very
much money in one, but it's a good emergency backup.

> For a VISA card issued by a North American bank to work in a European ATM
> it will need to have a PIN issued.
