It works on my M8.? Depending on conditions, the recessed front element might not need a lens hood.? I have never needed or wanted the zig-zag DOF markings.? I can't think of any reason not to use the E55 version... I will say the obvious.... Get ?a E55 Tri Elmar for half that cost.... The E55 is the same optical design, but different mechanical design. I have an E55 and find it reliable, and it works like it should. Frank F
