Look at the Rollei SL66. Cheap. Same exact optics as Hassy, but no leaf
shutter (read: light).
I carry an SL, 50, 80, 150, 2x, prism finder, pentax spot meter, extra back,
film, cable release and filters all in a mini trekker. Maybe 12-15 pounds
total.

And sharp as a tac! Has built in tilt as well as built in bellows extension.
I just bought a second body for backup for $900 and they will CLA it for me.

You can get an SL, 80 and back for $1,200/$1,300. Add on lenses as wanted.
Only get HFT lenses; most recent/same as T*.
And did I say it was about 1/3 the weight of a 501??

Trust me.....

I was hoping to sneak in under your radar :-)

Actually, I am WAFFLING on the following choices:
- Rollei 6003 with 80/2.8, WLF, one back - ~$1100
- Rollei 6008 with the same as above - $2000 :-(
- 501CM with back , 80 lens - $1500

And then I start to worry about the weight again and wondering about a
RF645 >.<

<-- but that's less likley just because it doesn't offer much over the
Mamiya 7II except for size and weight?

Either the Rollei or Hassy get me to the more portrait range, if I
were to go that route, which is the advantage over the RF.

The 6008 is a bit out of the price range..
