Sue I have Neat Image rather than Noise Ninja but I would think most of
these third party ones will work similarly. Noise Ninja has a good
reputation. 640ISO is not very high ISO with the M8, at least its not
intrinsically bad with decent exposure. However I think your biggest hurdle
is the underexposure. Shadow noise is much more prominent then. The noise
reduction in ACR and LR2 is not heavy duty but you could give it a try
first. Do get the latest 2.X updates though. The LR3 beta could be very
worthwhile too and its free. Luminance noise rather than colour noise is
probably your biggest challenge. You can probably leave the colour noise
reduction at or near its default 25 setting and see how you go with the
luminance slider. Start with your exposure as best you can tweak it though
(hint, a higher black clipping setting will mask some noise, that's what
some camera makers do to make their jpgs look better).
Send me a DNG in the usual manner and I can have a go for you to compare
notes too.
