Perhaps a little cynical, but it all boils down to one thing in my 
opinion and experience - wherever we are in the world, whether we are 
literate or not, and whatever we do, we almost always take the side of 
whoever is strongest, whoever offers us more, whoever keeps us safe or, 
for safety's sake, we subordinate ourselves to whoever poses the greater 
threat to our individual or collective security.

It's like that in the business world, the unions, political parties and 
almost anywhere else you can think of. It's all to do with satisfaction, 
security, peace of mind, personal fulfillment and for many, just the 
financial benefits it brings.
