Hi Peter,

They are lovely.

I think the B&W wins by a whisker.  Both of them could do with just a 
touch of additional processing IMHO.
Assuming you are a Lightroom user, then my approach would be to increase 
the 'Blacks' value a touch and/or alter the curve, reducing the values 
of the shadows and darks and increasing the values of the highlights to 
make an 'S' shaped curve.  Fairly subtle adjustments are needed. 
Finally, I would just slightly alter the brightness and contrast 
settings: increasing the contrast slightly and adjusting the brightness 
to get the highlights where I wanted them.

I would also burn in the bottom corners, or maybe even use the vignette 
tool to darken all of the corners slightly yo draw even more attention 
to those beautifully back-lit catcus spines.

I have the feeling that there is a beautiful print in there just asking 
to be teased out...
