Marty.... By definition, the fact that you have a sensor hooked up to
anything different, including additional signal conditioning and its
attendant filtering characteristics, data conversion and who knows what
else, means that you are not comparing the sensors directly.  You are
comparing a system ( Sensor and accompanying signal conditioning HW)  that
you must use to get your image.

However, I do understand that in your specialized business, the ability to
replace the sensor and front end electronics, is rather unique, and probably
gives you t he ability to get the most  out of any task by putting in the
tweaks to gently massage the system to its utmost.

Cameras don't have that modular approach,, and that is what we were talking
about.......

You can compare them when everything apart from the sensor and
supporting hardware is identical, including being made by the same
company, as it is in several of my microscope cameras.  You can't do
it with still cameras.
