Jim,
Look here for the Nikon 9000's spec's:

It does indeed use Firewire, described as "High-speed IEEE 1394 interface"
in the specs. This link and the fact that my Nikon 9000 is connected to my
PC with a Firewire cable as I write this has me pretty sure Nikon is still
using Firewire.
