Subject: [Leica] Dubare

Kodagu, or Coorg as it used to be known, is a verdant coffee growing
area in South India at the tail end of the Western Ghats, a range of
mountains that run parallel to and just off the west coast of India.
My family had gone for a quick four day holiday early in May, and
these are photographs from the trip.

This set is from Dubare, an elephant training camp on the banks of the
800 km long River Cauvery, though Dubare is just 50 km from the
source. The river is venerated as a goddess in South India, and is a
central feature of Hinduism here. The elephant training camp was set
up by the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore to train elephants for
religious and ceremonial duties, and has been in operation for over
100 years. It is a great place to go because anyone can help bathe the
elephants, and is particularly helpful in introducing young children
to animals so that their fear of animals gets mitigated:
