Gene,

they work well as B&W pictures.  I feel they need a bit more of tweak 
though.  They could do with being brighter to bring out the snow and 
have a touch more contrast.  If you are using Lightroom, playing around 
with the curve can make a big difference - an gentle 'S' shape can work 
wonders - pull the shadow area of the curve down a bit and lift the 
highlight area. It's the equivalent of altering the paper grade used.  A 
steeper curve is like a harder grade.

It's also worth playing with the colour sliders to emphasise certain 
portions of the the picture.  They both have quite a bit if potential 
and a few minutes in Lightroom (or equivalent) will make a massive 
difference to the output.
