Phil,

That is correct, if exposure lock is used it switches out of Matrix Mode, I 
checked the D200 manual and that is indeed what it does.

I think that exposure lock switches matrix to center-weighted at the
time of making the calculation. That is, if the camera allows the two
to be set at the same time the program would have to shift out of
matrix or else there would be too many images that would be just
unusable due to things like bright/dark areas that the matrix too
account for but then were not in the final exposure. My F4 did this, if
I recall correctly.
