You mean I can't just put a minus sign in front of the amount of
Gaussian blur to apply?

This isn't going to fix your out of focus images.... as it's not
entirely software...
 
Actually the refocusing ability is due to the fact that camera appears
to have some sort of multi-lens or multi-image capability.... perhaps
internally.... that somehow or another is capturing simultaneous images
at different points of focus...   looking at the samples images... there
appears to be a number of steps in the focus...
 
It will also capture 3-d photos....   and software probably fills in
some of the gaps....  
 
But no photos of the camera have been released/surfaced yet...
