Hi Crew,

I would like to clarify what might be a misunderstanding about my lens shade
use!

I use shades on every lens and have always done so throughout my career!
Certainly in some lighting situations one would be a bloody fool not to.

HOWEVER THE NOCTILUX??? Without shade? It's been like that since 1980
because it no longer has the locking pins in the outer lens barrel to lock
the shade in place! And as far as I'm concerned I have not had any absolute
visual problems, colour nor B&W, using the lens without it.

I suppose one could say I'm a fool for not getting it repaired and they
maybe correct? However how many of you would pop around $300 dollars to have
it fixed? And that was a quote in 1980 dollars...... just move that amount
into 2011 dollars and I bet not one of you would consider paying that
amount, particularly when the lens has the least amount of flare factor of
any lens I've used under lighting conditions many of you would fear to
shoot?

I trust this clears yer minds about my technical abilities in using a lens
shade.

Thank you.
cheers,
ted
