Hi Ryan it's a lovely shot. Kids are a great reason to have a great camera
and practice with it a lot.
On photographing faces, the near eye is a classic focus point. After that
it is all about depth of field of course. Easier said then done with moving
subjects. It sounds like you are on track though. With kids it helps to be
action director and master communicator as well as photographer.

Regarding dioptre correction eyepieces and magnifiers, it's a little
complicated but it helps to think of the magnifier making the rangefinder
patch and frame lines larger (thus accuracy is increased) and the dioptre
is to change the focus (at what distance the sharpest plane is). The
eyepieces are expensive and not common to find to try out. If you wear
glasses and have distance and reading corrections, the distance is the one
you want. Your age (ability to accommodate focus shift) and any additional
correction for astigmatism can affect what works best for you too.
The best way to work out what is most suitable with or without glasses (if
anything) is to go to your optometrist ideally to try looking through your
viewfinder with different test lenses. You might be able to try with those
cheap reading glasses with marked dioptres too.
