Mark, OS 9 is not Unix. OS X is derived from NeXT, which uses a Mach kernel
(the core of an OS, from CMU) with lots of BSD Unix stuff on top. The
majorly odd thing about OS X vs. a vanilla Unix or Linux distribution is
that OS X uses Objective-C as the prime interface to the OS API vs. plain
C.
