I agree. I got beautiful color from the old Kodak 14n that I used to have.
That camera had a lot of issues; like the Leica M8, it was really not a
truly finished product and it required knowledge of its limitations, but
like the M8 it gave incredible images when you jumped through the hoops.
It had incredibly beautiful, naturalistic color. I have a Canon 5DII now
and am constantly amazed at the color images I am getting with it.

The links above were shot with the old Kodak 14n.A fairly early d-SLR by
todays standards.
