99.999% of users do not want/need FF, extra bulk and cost for what purpose?

Given that these 99.999 mostly put photos on Flickr/Facebook or small prints 
a phone camera is adequate!

I just found this review of the M8 by Getty:

They gave it 4 out of 5 which is pretty good compared to some of the
others.  I guess they don't need full-frame files at Getty either!  They
haven't reviewed the M9 yet.
