Well, looking at it as an outsider, I'd say it's a cultural essential. The 
particular place doesn't exactly make the heart sing architecturally, and 
the addition of a tusk gives it a bit of a point.

That said, I'm envious of the eternal sunshine that a benevolent, and 
obviously pro-Californian, deity blesses the oblivious populace with. We 
architecturally rewarded Europeans have to admire our edifaces all too 
frequently through horizontal H2O.

Or is it the Google Street View effect? Even my current home looks almost 
bright on it.
